The headquarters of the Franciscan Family Apostolate is located in Madison, Connecticut. Alan J. Ouimet, S.F.O. is the founder - president and is assisted by a small staff of volunteers. All the transactions of the Apostolate including assignments and funding of families are done at this location.


Alan visits with the staff in India.

Trips to India are made regularly by Mr. Ouimet or other board member, often accompanied by sponsors and/or other members of the board of directors, to personally visit the poor there and to coordinate with the staff in India.

Board of Directors

The FFA is governed by a board of directors that meets annually.

Alan J. Ouimet, S.F.O – Founding President 

Alan has been a member of the Secular Franciscan Order since 1967 and founded the Franciscan Family Apostolate (FFA) in 1971 while employed as a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I.) To give full attention to the FFA retired from the F.B.I. in 1988. Since his retirement he has also been involved as a founding director of the Connecticut Urban Education Foundation founded to assist in the education of at-risk children in New Haven’s inner city; he is a founding director and chairman of the Heart 2 Heart Foundation, USA founded to care for HIV/AIDS children in Kenya; and was a trustee on the Board of Trustees of the Former Agents of the F.B.I. Foundation committee to assisting those with financial and educational needs in he F.B.I. family. Alan was awarded the Society’s Humanitarian award in 2003 for his work in India. 

Alan is married and has four children and six grand-children. He joined the Secular Franciscans and became involved with the poor to fulfill a promise he made upon hearing his wife, Mary, while carrying their second child had a tumor. His favorite aphorism of Saint Francis is “Come, let us always preach the gospel and use words if necessary.”

  • Judy Warner - BOD Chairperson

    Judith Warner became involved with the Franciscan Family Apostolate through her aunt, Mary Catherine Storms, who was one of the first sponsors in the FFA. She has visited India a number of times and currently is responsible for the FFA newsletter and Seeds of Love program. Judy is an author who has worked in the field of conflict resolution and relationship for over twenty years. She currently directs the NY office of Thomas Crum, an international conflict resolution specialist. She lives in upstate New York with her husband.
  • Mary Ouimet
    Mary was the reason the FFA began. She became ill. Alan prayed and joined the Secular Franciscan Order and got involved in India. She has been with Alan from the start. She ran the FFA from their kitchen table until our incorporation in 1987. She has been on the board since that time. Mary is a graduate of St. John's University and a Masters Degree in Education from Southern CT State University. She has been an elementary school teacher since 1988. Mother of four children - Matthew, Mark, Jennifer and Claire and grandmother of five - Alexandra, Kaylee, Genevieve, Kassidy and Luke Johnathon.

  • Frank Barfuss - Treasurer
    Frank's wife, Carolyn, was a devotee of Fr. Diorio's healing sessions and through him became an FFA sponsor. She told Alan that Frank might be able to help him when he retired. In 1992 he retired as a CPA partner in one of the major accounting firms and in the next year found a note in his follow up file to call Alan and see if he could help. The day he called Alan was seeing the FFA auditors and got Frank involved immediately. Frank has computerize the operation and is currently the treasurer.
     
  • Debra Rohr - Director
    Debra currently is employed at Yale University in the Chaplain’s Office where she is the Buildings Operations Coordinator. She has been involved with the FFA over the past 20 years, as a sponsor and office volunteer. One of her biggest thrills was in February of 2006 when she was able to attend the wedding of her “India daughter” Shiny in Kerala. She and her husband Rob have two daughters of their own, Beth and Lindsay. She resides in Guilford, Ct with her family and  in–laws, who are also sponsors.

  • Miki Lovett - Director

    Miki lives in Nantucket, Massachusetts where she works as a web site designer. Miki designed and maintains the web site for the FFA. She was introduced to the FFA through some friends in 2001 and became a sponsor. Shortly thereafter she volunteered to help with the web site for the organization. She joined the board of directors in 2003.

  • Patricia A. Nealon - Secretary

    Patricia recently moved from NY to CT with her husband and 2 adopted sons from Guatemala.  She was raised in Bronx, NY and her education ncludes a BS degree in Family and Consumer Studies from Lehman College and a MBA and Post Master’s Certificate in Accounting and Finance from Iona College. She worked at JP Morgan Chase for over 22 years mainly as a Financial Manager in the operations area. Upon leaving the bank she worked for a small money management company in the tax area.  Most recently she was the controller for a nursery school. Currently she is a board member and treasurer for Heart2Heart, USA which helps educate orphaned children in Kenya.  She is also involved in V.I.D.A. an agency that provides health and education services for disadvantaged children in Guatemala. Currently, she is volunteering her accounting services as an assistant treasurer in the Franciscan Family Apostolate and she is in the formation stage of joining the Secular Franciscan Order along with her husband.
